Sir Mark Elder CH CBE Dinner | Friday 27 March | 7pm for 7.30pm | Spectator Boardroom

Sir Mark Elder is one of the greatest conductors of the age, famed for the transformation he wrought at English National Opera in the 1980s and for his remarkable 25-year reign as Music Director of the Hallé Orchestra. Now Music Director of the Valencia Opera and Principal Guest Conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic, Sir Mark is currently conducting a majestic Rigoletto at Covent Garden (exactly 50 years since his debut there) and will chat to us over a fine, bottle-a-head dinner about operas, orchestras and Sir Edward Elgar. He has an especial affinity with Elgar, made even more vivid by the fact that the composer often stayed at 22 Old Queen Street (now home to The Spectator) and wrote and performed some of his music there.
