Winemaker’s Lunch with Domaine du Grand Mayne - Friday 6 March
Join us in the Spectator boardroom on Friday 6 March for the next in this year’s series of Spectator Winemaker Lunches with Philip Addis of Domaine du Grand Mayne, the multi-award-winning artisan winery in the Côtes du Duras, near Bordeaux.
What was once an abandoned estate was completely transformed in the 1980s and the revival has continued with the help of consultant winemaker Martin Meinert (of South African fame) and Philip himself (founder of Great Western Wines). Today, thanks to two rounds of crowd-funding, Domaine du Grand Mayne, is owned by a community of some 900 wine lovers and the estate has put the wines of south western France firmly on the map whilst also leading the way in wine tourism.
Over a fine, four course cold lunch provided by Forman & Field, Philip will present and discuss a selection of vintages from Domaine du Grand Mayne’s main range, namely the Unoaked Sauvignon Blanc (a recent gold medal winner at Paris), the Merlot/Cabernet, the barrel-fermented Sauvignon/Sémillon and the barrel-aged red blend and – with luck – the estate’s delectable sweet wine.
The wines of Domaine du Grand Mayne prove just how fine a region the Côtes de Duras can be and what great value compared to its near neighbour, Bordeaux, and with special offers available on all the wines enjoyed at lunch, this promises to be a wonderful occasion.
