Beer Lunch - Friday 29 March
Join us in the Spectator boardroom on Friday 29 March for the next in our series of Spectator Winemaker Lunches with Rupert Ponsonby, a Founder of the Beer Academy.
Rupert is the most entertaining and ebullient of speakers and knows more about beer than almost anyone else alive. During the course of a fine cold lunch provided by Forman & Field, he will discuss the history and provenance of this most ancient of drinks, whilst also demonstrating just how many wonderful styles are now available, how beautifully they match F&Fs’ food and how crucial a role different glassware plays in its enjoyment.
Around a dozen different beers will be served in wildly varying glasses alongside a specially chosen cold menu from Forman & Field, with examples including Mr Trotter’s Chestnut Ale, Liefman’s Sour Brown Ale, Schiehallion Unfiltered Lager, Moor Beer Co’s Claudia and Illusion, Marston’s 61 Deep Pale Ale, Fuller’s London Porter and Vintage, Marston’s Old Empire, Coniston No 9 Barley Wine, Duvel ‘Tripel’ Hop and Liefman’s Kriek. Guests will also be given a couple of fine examples to sample at home.
Beer is hip and trendy once again and many Michelin-starred restaurants such as Le Gavroche and Quilon now boast carefully curated beer lists. Come and see just how fine this great drink is in its many modern and ancient incarnations.
